We have been commissioned by our customer in the Biltmore/Arcadia area to build this extremely large unique coffee table for their home using this 60x57x3" Walnut Burl/End Grain live edge slab.
This slab was chainsaw cut 4" thick from a giant Black Walnut rootball that was dug out of the ground. We've spent weeks stabilizing the slab with over 2.5 gallons of epoxy resin, filling every void and stabilizing fragile end grain, carving back punky bark, cleaning the live edges up, etc.
We created the legs from 3" diameter lucite rod which we tapped with 1/2x13x2.5" threads and mounted flush into the under side of the slab with cleats we created utilizing no visible hardware while the table is on display. All surfaces and end cuts of the lucite were polished to crystal clear.
