I have started work on the special 50x77 California Buckeye Burl live edge slab to transform into a bold statement wall art piece for the Haute Plank Wood Flooring Gallery in Scottsdale for their open house on August 8. It will be featured on their charcoal accent wall surrounded by neutral cerused Oak flooring and furniture staged with biophilic accents.
You can read more about this collaboration on their website blog post:
I've installed LED backlighting for the wood slab so it glows against the charcoal wall. The lights are setup to run either off a standard wall plug with wireless remote, or off of a battery pack with small switch and recharge port accessed from the center hole with it mounted on the wall.
I chose 5k color temp pure white LEDs so that when the light reflects off the warm wood color it will be a true warm white and not overly orange, or with a blue tint.
The piece mounts on the wall using a pair of aluminum cleats rated at 300lbs each, mounted on Eucalyptus hardwood cleats and threaded inserts that go deep into both the Eucalyptus and Buckeye wood. The Buckeye slab also has steel cleats inlayed across fragile natural voids in the back of the slab to add support.
